A Legacy of Brotherhood, Culture, and Impact at Syracuse University
From a shared vision in 1994 to a legacy that spans generations, the Kappa Chapter of Phi Iota Alpha Fraternity, Inc. represents a powerful story of Latino unity, perseverance, and pride. What began as a dream among five bold young men has grown into a beacon of leadership, cultural celebration, and lifelong brotherhood at Syracuse University.
The Kappa Chapter is Formed
- Rooted in History: Our origins trace back to Sigma Iota—established in 1911—one of the oldest known Latino fraternities, and a foundational organization that helped form Phi Iota Alpha.
- Founded in 1994: Five visionaries—Alex Santillan, Victor E. Franco, Jr., Ruben Felipe, Jose J. Pizarroso, and Richard Peterson—brought the Kappa Chapter to life to empower Latino identity on campus.
- Built to Last: Over 30 years strong, we continue to shape campus culture through leadership, tradition, and service to the greater Syracuse community.
