About Us
In the fall of 1994, five visionary young men — Alex Santillan, Victor E. Franco, Jr., Ruben Felipe, Jose J. Pizarroso, and Richard Peterson — founded the Kappa Chapter of Phi Iota Alpha Fraternity, Inc. at Syracuse University. At a time when there was only one Latino-based fraternity on campus, they saw a pressing need for a space that would celebrate and empower Latino identity, culture, and brotherhood.
Their efforts were not just about founding a fraternity — they were about building a legacy. What began as an idea became a movement that has shaped generations of Hermanos, leaving a lasting mark on the Syracuse campus and beyond.
Now, 31 years later, we gather to honor their vision, reflect on our journey, and celebrate the enduring spirit of Kappa. From its roots in unity and cultural pride to its present-day commitment to leadership and community, the Kappa Chapter continues to stand as a beacon of excellence and familia.

Kick off the weekend with good vibes and familiar faces at our Welcome Party. Open to all alumni, undergrads, and friends of the fraternity, this casual mixer will set the tone for a weekend full of celebration. Come reconnect, network, and toast to 31 years of brotherhood.
Phi Iota Alpha alumni share their journeys and insights on navigating life after graduation. This panel is a chance for current students and recent grads to ask questions, gain real-world advice, and build connections across industries. Open to all Syracuse students, especially those in HEOP and SSS.
Get ready to laugh the night away! We're hosting a special comedy show featuring a lineup of stand-up talent. Bring your friends, bring your laughs — details coming soon.
Join us for the marquee event of the weekend: our 31st Anniversary Banquet. Enjoy a night of elegance and celebration featuring a catered dinner, live band, cultural dance performances, and tributes to the founders and alumni who have shaped our chapter. Formal attire encouraged.
Close out the weekend with a high-energy after party powered by En My Bag. Expect music, dancing, and an unforgettable vibe as we honor 31 years of La Kappa’s presence at Syracuse. Details on location and time coming soon.
